Tradition of vine-growing on area of the Slovak Republic began according to archaeological findings and historical documents on start of our era. Wrote documents about vine-growing on area of the Slovak Republic are from the 10th century. Wrote documents show evidence of vine-growing in Middle Ages on whole area of Slovak Republic. These wrote documents originate from archives of landlords and church. Names of habitations, parts of areas, but popular architecture and arts also are evidence of vine-growing. More detailed wrote information about vine-growing and wine-making are from last 200 years. Vine-growing was negative influenced by some human activities (for example by wars) and natural disasters. Vine-growing and wine-making were developed during periods of peace and economic expansions. Revitalization of vineyards supported by subsidies which aim is increasing mainly of quality of vine-growing and wine-making is in progress in Slovakia in present time.
