The hierarchy of the constraints exerted by abiotic features on the land use pattern usually reveals the limiting factors of the production processes. The role and magnitude of the contagious effect induced by spatial interaction may also be assessed on the basis of this analysis. Structural and organizational changes occurring during landscape development can be studied in the same framework.
