Long-lived soil organisms Lumbricids, sampled at immission area of south-eastern vicinity of Slovnaft refinery, were used as indicators for environmental pollution by V, Ni, Cd and Pb. Heavy metal aerosols may originate from various burning processes of waste incineration in this area as well as of crude oil refinement. First of all, contents of V and Ni are in petroleum ash substituted in quite high concentration. Measured heavy metal concentrations in earthworms tissue were compared to heavy metal concentrations in soil eluates, sampled at the spots of earthworm occurrence. Humus content, average mineralogical composition and pH of soil substrate were determined, respectively. Statistically evaluated results (medians) were compared to the highest admitted value of metals, recommended for agricultural feed. Because of high nutrient contents (especially albumen) in earthworm tissue, these organisms may be used for feeding fish, poultry, fur animals and birds. For the metals bio-accumulation, average multiplication factor for V 37, for Ni 8, for Cd 81 and for Pb 5 in soil eluates and Lumbricid tissue were estimated. AAS - GTA method for earthworm matrix heavy metal analyses was seen to be more precise than ICP.
