Concentrations of Al, Be, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Li, Mg, Mn, N, Na, Ni, Pb, Rb, S, Sr, V and Zn were determined in 2-year-old needles of Picea abies from 1118 plots in Slovakia (in network of 4x4 km). The foliage content (median) in P. abies was in mg · kg-1: Al99; As 0.22; Ba 41; Be 0.04; Ca 6718; Cd 0.15; Co 0.11; Cr 0.46; Cu 3.8; F 6.2; Fe 88; Hg 0.07; K 5882; Li 0.13; Mg 874; Mn 807; N 15300; Na 26; Ni 2; Pb 1.2; Rb 7; S 1750; Se 0.04; Sr 15.3; V 0.2 and Zn 38. Maximum values of fluor and heavy metals in the needles of P. abies were found in industrial areas. The particles of biological origin were found on 49% and those of mineral origin on 74% of surface of foliage of P. abies. Fly-ash from combustion of coal and heavy oil was present on 98%; the particles of Al were found in 3%; the particles of Fe were present on 57%; and the particles corresponding by their composition to other industries were found in 34% of foliage stomata.
