At the present paper we want to focus on importance and possibilities of utilisation of GIS programmes in landscape-ecological plan of the city, with empirical case of the city of Považská Bystrica. The base of the research was landscape-ecological plan methodology compiling logical sequence from analysis, synthesis, interpretation to evaluations and proposals. Input data in researched area for software processing in ArcView and ArcInfo was represented by maps in vector format in scale 1:10 000. In the section of the analysis we had to study morphometric parameters of georelief as slope gradient and orientation. Through aerial photographs and fieldtrips could come map of second landscape structure. Creation of abiocomplexes and spatial units as micro-catchments represent section of the synthesis. Importance of GIS is viewable mostly in section of the territory evaluation in determination of abiotic landscape stability and the resistance to specific processes based on purpose-made models. The greatest interest we put on evaluation of landscape resistance to landslide processes, processes of water erosion and tendency of territory for substrate and underground water pollution by rainfall.
