Development of industrial parks in the world is an on-going process for several decades and it significantly contributes to increase of employment rate, revival of business environment and improvement of the complex economical situation of individual regions. In the Slovak Republic the problem of establishing and development of industrial parks is new, and from legal aspect it is partially treated only since 2001. In spite of economic and social benefits accompanying the industrial parks in particular region, their unsuitable location can have serious negative impacts on the environment. The duty to assess the proposals of industrial parks is adjusted by Act No. 127/1994 of the Slovak National Council on Environmental Impact Assessment in wording of Act No. 391/2000. In 2002 the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic in cooperation with other ministries elaborated the study of location of industrial parks in selected areas of the Slovak Republic, where the presumptions of suggested localities within single regions were assessed on the basis of questionnaires.
